Survey: 55% of Russians say woman could become president in next 10-20 Years

55% of Russians say that a woman could become president of Russia in the next 10-20 years, according to a recent survey by the Public Opinion fund. 58% of woman and 51% of men maintain that view. Moreover, 70% of respondents in the Urals, 65% in Siberia and 60% in rural areas also believed a woman could officially lead the country.

Meanwhile, 30% of those surveyed said that a woman could not take the leading post in the country in the next 10-20 years. 37% of residents from the Central Federal District and 36% of respondents with higher educations also held that view.

In addition, 56% of respondents said they would consider voting for a female presidential candidate. 63% of women and 71% of respondents with higher educations answered the question affirmatively. 16% of those surveyed said the sex of a presidential candidate was not important. They valued more political views and talent as a director. 9% of respondents said a woman would be more likely to bring stability to the position and be more attentive 'to life's everyday problems.' 8% said women have special qualities of wisdom, responsibility, practicality, preciseness and more developed intuition compared to men. 6% were curious to find out how a government headed by woman would differ from one lead by a man.

Of those respondents who said they would not vote for a female presidential candidate, 15% said they were convinced that politics was not an affair for women, and a woman couldn't manage the office of president. 2% said that there view had nothing to do with women per se, but with the country's need for 'a strong male' leader. 1500 people took part in the survey which was conducted on February 7.
