Poll finds Putin support in presidential race at 78%

If the Russian presidential election was held next Sunday, 86% of eligible voters would go the polls and 78% would vote for Vladimir Putin.

The poll, conducted between January 15 and January 20, 2004, by ROMIR Monitoring in more than 100 towns, cities and villages of the Russian Federation, found that Sergey Glazyev would get 3% of the vote, with the remaining candidates getting no more than 1% apiece. Some 6% of those surveyed said they would vote against all candidates, and 9% said they had not yet made up their minds.

With Putin omitted from the list of candidates, Glazyev would get 13% of those voting, Irina Khakama would get 4% and Sergey Mironov 2%. Under these conditions, 51% of those surveyed said they would vote against all the candidates.

The surveyors polled 1,620 persons. The results have a margin of error of 2.6%.
