Central Bank supports dollar

The weighted average dollar exchange rate on tomorrow deals amounted to 29.27 RUR/USD at a special session at 11:30 Moscow time today. It means that the official dollar rate for December 23 will be RUR0.02 higher.

Commercial bank dealers point out that in early trade the dollar's advance was more considerable. However, later the ruble started winning back its position. Nevertheless, the ruble has weakened against US currency for the first time over a pretty long period of time. Experts say that one of the factors that promoted this situation is the Central Bank's support of the dollar. They also link the standstill in the dollar over the two previous working days to activities of the Central Bank.
