Novokuznetsk (a city in the Kemerovo region, Siberian federal district) businessmen won a privatization tender for "Sharyn-Gol," a major Mongolian coal seam.
Coal production in this region can reach up to 1 million tons per year, reported Viktor Solomennik, head of the Kuznetsk Basin representative office in Mongolia. According to the Geological Association of Mongolia, there are also gold deposits on the Sharyn-Gol coal seam.
The companies' success at the tender was approved by the government, political and business circles in Mongolia, widely covered in mass media and referred to as a satisfactory and fair privatization outcome, Solomennik said.
Kuztetsk Basin officials are arranging for future cooperation with Mongolia in various fields. A permanent exhibition "Kuznetsk Basin goods" is open on the territory of the Kuznetsk Basin representative office, Solomennik said.
