Moscow to host Internet conference

The fifth international conference "Law And Internet: Theory And Practice" is to open at the Russian civil service academy here today. This conference is taking place under the auspices of UNESCO's Information for All program.

Talking to RIA Novosti, people at the conference's organizing committee noted that conference delegates will examine intellectual-property issues in cyberspace. The two-day conference is called on to pool efforts of scientists and practicing lawyers, as well as those of IT (Information Technology) experts, for the sake of solving various problems concerning the legal regulation of the Internet environment and the relevant law-enforcement issues.

Among other things, it's intended to discuss legal information-security aspects, as well as electronic-document turnover issues, within the framework of civil-law, criminal-law and public-law relations.

Roundtable discussions dealing with the use of cybertechnologies in legal education and support for telecommunications and data-exchange projects will be organized during the conference.

Russia's Culture Minister Mikhail Shvydkoi, as well as UNESCO director-general Koichiro Matsuura, would be expected to address the opening ceremony. For his own part, Mr. Matsuura is to unveil documents, which were passed by UNESCO's 32nd session, i.e. the charter on the preservation of the digital heritage, as well as recommendations to expand multi-lingual concepts and to ensure all-out access to cyberspace.
