The problems of the unity of Orthodoxy and its relations with other Christian faiths in conditions of globalisation and secularisation are being discussed by the theologians from different countries at the international conference Orthodox Doctrine on Church, which Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II opened in Moscow on Monday.
"The unity of Orthodoxy is a special theme which deserves a theological debate at this conference. There are many problems in this sphere, and theologians play a substantial role in resolving them", the Patriarch said greeting the forum participants.
The questions of relations between Orthodoxy and other Christian faiths will also be an important theme to be discussed at the conference.
The chairman of the conference, the Patriarch's exarch of All Belarus Metropolitan of Minsk and Slutsk Filaret, noted in his report that "Universal Orthodoxy must consolidate in the face of the globalisation processes, the unification of culture and new conflicts on religious grounds".
