OSCE mission to monitor elections in Russia starts its work

The OSCE mission for observing the parliamentary elections in Russia, which will be held on December 7, started its work on Monday.

The head of the mission, Rita Suessmuth, spoke about it at the news conference in Moscow.

According to her, the mission will observe the holding of the elections both from the point of view of the national Russian legislation and the norms of the OSCE. The observers will monitor all aspects of the elections, including the election campaign, the work of the mass media and the procedure of receiving complaints and reacting to them in connection with possible violations.

As Rita Suessmuth said, the mission starts its work with deploying in Moscow and in the regions of the country 57 long-term observers from 16 OSCE countries. The OSCE Bureau on democratic institutions and human rights plans to send to Russia, closer to the elections, about 400 observers additionally.
