Russia and Armenia are going to enter into an agreement on cooperation in the sphere of electric energy, head of the Russian RAO UES Rossii energy holding Anatoly Chubais told journalists in Yerevan on Wednesday.
"The agreement will envisage Russian responsibility for the key power facilities in Armenia," Anatoly Chubais specified.
During his visit to Yerevan the official intends to negotiate with the Armenian government on measures necessary for the republic to maintain stable energy supply levels throughout the winter to come. "The last winter's situation must not recur," the head of RAO UES said.
Besides, he is going to work out with the Armenian leadership a "strategy to access the energy markets of the third world".
Russian-Armenian cooperation in electric energy "will ensure reliability of all Trans-Caucasian energy systems and boost export-import transactions", the head of RAO UES pointed out.
Anatoly Chubais also mentioned that Armenia's energy system operates in tune with Iran', "which opens serious opportunities too".
