Russian President Vladimir Putin has greeted Colonel-General Anatoly Romanov, Hero of Russia and holder of several orders, on his 55th birthday, reports the Kremlin press service.
"Your life is an example of selfless serving the Motherland, loyalty to your oath and duty. A strong and courageous man, an experienced commander, you have passed tough military schooling and have always with honour fulfilled the most complicated and responsible goals," reads the presidential message.
"People like you, your courage and heroism are the pride and glory of Russia," says the president.
Anatoly Romanov was gravely wounded on October 6, 1995 in a terrorist act on Minutka Square in the Chechen capital Grozny, when a bomb exploded. Until now the general has been undergoing treatment in the Burdenko Military Hospital. Doctors are not losing hope for his rehabilitation.
