Representative of the Russian President satisfied with his visit to the DPRK

Plenipotentiary representative of the Russian President in the Far Eastern Federal District Konstantin Pulikovsky called his visit to the DPRK successful.

He told Russian and foreign reporters about it on Thursday on arriving in the Vladivostok airport from Pyongyang.

The plenipotentiary representative pointed out that during the conversation with DPRK leader Kim Jong-il they spoke about the prospects of business cooperation between Russia and the DPRK and about the situation on the Korean peninsula.

As Pulikovsky said, Kim Jong-il expressed dissatisfaction with the results of the first meeting on the Korean problem in the six-sided format, which took place in Beijng.

"According to the DPRK leader, each side at the meeting in Beijing heard only itself, not trying to grasp the essence of the arisen problem," said the plenipotentiary representative.

Touching upon the situation in North Korea, Pulikovsky remarked that despite the pompous festivities, "the people in the DPRK live poorly." However, he added, "the government of the country is taking concrete steps for improving the situation." Among the measures aimed at improving the economic situation in the country, Pulikovsky named the monetary reform, the raising of the public sector wages and the price reform.

Konstantin Pulikovsky said that he also had a number of meetings with the heads of North Korean enterprises. "In conversations with them I felt their interest in a market economy," noted the plenipotentiary representative. According to him, "Many people in the DPRK link the way towards better life with business cooperation with Russia." The official visit by Konstantin Pulikovsky to North Korea took place from September 8 to 11. He was invited by the leadership of the country to the festivities on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the foundation of the DPRK.
