Intel to support Russian software developers

Intel is launching a programme to support software developers in Russia. Melissa Laird, the general director of Intel's software and solutions group, announced the programme yesterday at a press conference during the 3rd international software developers forum that is taking place in St. Petersburg.

Laird said that the programme would set up a new Intel team in Russia. A centre in Moscow will provide marketing support, and a centre in Nizhny Novgorod will provide technical support and consultation services. 'Intel is planning to support development companies with new engineering and marketing resources; help support applications developed for corporate and government business, and give additional support to individual developers with the help of seminars, exhibitions, training courses and study materials,' Laird said.

'By 2005 the value of software production in Russia will rise to USD 1 billion,' she said, referring to Russian government statistics. 'The value of the Russian IT market in 2001 was USD 3 billion. Annual growth is expected to reach 20% by the end of 2003. The rapid growth of the IT market in Russia is backed by government programmes for introducing IT, for example the Electronic Russia programme; the traditionally high level of technical education; the growth of the number of Internet users in Russia and other CIS countries; and the expansion of industrial production.'
