RAO UES head voices main goals of energy reforms

The main objectives of restructuring the energy sector is to rid the state of investment burden and establish acceptable energy tariffs for consumers, Anatoly Chubais, the head of RAO UES, declared after the government meeting today. According to him, the implementation of the process of restructuring RAO UES has been put into practice already. The plan for restructuring the energy sector in the period from 2003 to 2005 has been approved. Within the framework of this document some 49 rulings and decrees are to be adopted, he said. Chubais also added that the capitalization of RAO UES had grown from 3bn rubles ($98m) to 11bn rubles ($361m) over the past 10 months, which testified to the fact that the market had supported reforms in the energy sector.
