Russian car manufacturer ZIL is to launch production of ambulances at the end of 2003, according to the Moscow city administration's press centre. The ambulances, which are based on the ZIL-530120 chassis, have already undergone testing. They will meet all the demands of modern medicine and be equipped with domestic medical equipment, as well as being competitively priced.
The project to manufacture ambulances has taken three years to come to fruition. The Moscow administration has spent 1.8 million roubles (USD 60,000) on the project and the Science and Industry Ministry has spent 3.5 million roubles (USD 120,000). The domestic market requires over 200 ambulances a year.
