Many leading British companies have announced investments in Russia this year, according to British Ambassador to Russia Roderic Lyne. The ambassador was speaking on Echo of Moscow radio. He said that over the last two years economic ties between the two countries have become stronger thanks mainly to 'the stable political situation and the growth of the Russian economy.' The ambassador said that during President Putin's visit to Britain next week a final agreement between BP and TNK would be signed. The ambassador also said that other economic agreements are expected to be signed as well.
The ambassador said that Britain and Russia share the same views on all key issues in international politics: they want to set up a civilian government in Iraq, integrate the country into the international community and rebuild its economy. He added that Russia and Britain are both focused on Iraq's future and intend to work together closely over international relations.
