A Russian language centre for foreign students is set to open this autumn in the major city of Novosibirsk (northwest Siberia). The centre will be housed in the local state technical university after it won a Russian Education Ministry competition.
About 50 students from various countries will be able to study in the new centre from September 1. Teachers and classrooms for the centre are currently being sought.
There are higher educational establishments in Siberia catering for foreigners in both terms of cost and quality. The new centre is going to solve tasks such as providing preliminary preparations in Russian to increase the level of students' knowledge.
Novosibirsk Technical University has great experience in this sphere. Foreign students first started to attend lessons there more than twenty years ago. The university has been working as a Russian language test centre for foreigners since 1997. About 130 foreign citizens have received the relevant certificates in the last five years.
The university is currently holding summer language courses for students from China, Italy and South Korea.
