Prosecutor General's Office wants MSF employee to witness in court

"The Prosecutor General's Office will take all necessary efforts to ensure presence in court of Kenneth Gluck, whose abductors are standing trial in Rostov-on-Don /South Russia/", Russian Deputy Prosecutor General Sergei Fridinsky said at a press conference in Rostov-on-Don.

The procedure of interrogating foreign citizens is difficult, because the people who are either victims or witnesses in this particular case are employees of international missions. This gives them immunity from being interrogated, he explained.

At present it is to early to say whether Gluck will appear in court, but "the trial should not be ceased," Fridinsky emphasized.

Prosecution and judicial system on the whole "did their best to present witnesses' testimony and evidence acquired to the court," he pointed out.

Employee of the Medecins Sans Frontieres mission Kenneth Gluck was kidnapped in 2001 on the territory of the Chechen republic and was held prisoner for about a month.

Two Chechen citizens, Magomed Gakayev and Ayub Katayev are accused of the abduction. At the first session that started on May 5th, they both pleaded not guilty.

According to the court's information, Gluck is now in Iraq together with an MSF mission.
