Russian expert: USA may pass all Iraqi affairs except oil under UN aegis

Assistant of the UN Secretary General Yuli Vorontsov has stated that as early as in three months the USA may pass under the UN aegis all Iraqi affairs, except oil. He made this statement at a press conference on Thursday.

According to him, "the USA is not well aware what exactly is currently going on in Iraq, thus in the future they may pass all affairs to the UN." "NATO will not resolve these problems, for they are too complicated, while the UN is quite experienced in managing critical situations," he believes.

Yuli Vorontsov stressed that "it was too early to bury the UN" in connection to the Iraqi crisis. "Force interference in Iraq led to the devastation and chaos," and Washington's attempts to withdraw the UN from the Iraqi settlement should not be taken as something permanent and firm," he stated.
