OPEC President and Qatari Minister for Energy and Industry Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah arrived in Moscow yesterday. According to the press office of the Russian Energy Ministry the Qatari minister was invited to Moscow by Russian Energy Minister Igor Yusufov.
A short meeting was held between the OPEC president and the Russian energy minister at the Vnukovo airport. The two ministers discussed bilateral relations between Russia and OPEC and in particular the need for equitable oil prices on the world market.
The Energy Ministry pointed out that the first meeting between Mr Yusufov and Mr Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah took place on January 7, 2003, while the Russian minister was on a visit to the Persian Gulf. On April 24 the Russian minister telephoned his Qatari counterpart to discuss recent events in the Persian Gulf and how they may affect Russian-OPEC relations.
