The total number of donors in Russia has decreased by 200% over the last 15 years, according to Chief Transfusiologist of Russia Evgeny Selivanov. He said that there are just over 2 million donors overall in the country. That means that for every 1000 people there are only 14 donors. 'This is not sufficient to provide hospitals with quality biological material for treatment,' said Selivanov. In Europe for every 1000 people there are 60 donors, he said.
