New Tanker for Azerbaijan Launched in Russia

The Krasnoye Sormovo shipyard in Nizhny Novgorod (a city on the Volga, 400 km to the east of Moscow) launched Thursday the first tanker project 19612A for the Caspian ship company (Azerbaijan).

According to the shipyard's press service, the river-sea ship will carry oil products and crude oil. The ship meets the requirements of the basic sea navigation conventions. The project was developed by the Krasnoye Sormovo engineering centre.

According to the press-service, the contract with the ship company signed in October 2002 stipulates for construction of two such tankers. The ships are expected to be handed to the customer in October-November 2003.

The project 19612A tankers are twin-screw ships with the engine-room and a deck erection on the stern. The ship has seven cargo and two sediment tanks, dry interdeck space under the cargo tanks, ballast compartments within double boards along the cargo tanks. The ships has double board and double bottom to avoid leakage of oil in case of emergency. The ship's length is 141 metres, width - 16.9 metres, depth - 7.4 metres, dead weight - up to 8,000 tonnes.

The press service noted that the shipyard would construct for Azerbaijan until 2005 four other tankers project 19619 developed by its engineering centre.
