The international symposium "The Far East and Asian-Pacific Region: the Present Situation and Outlook for Development" opened on Tuesday in Khabarovsk (Russia's Far East).
Its organizing committee is chaired by the regional governor, chairman of the Russian National Committee for Pacific economic cooperation Viktor Ishayev, RIA Novosti learned from the press service of the Khabarovsk regional government. The social sciences department of the Russian Academy of Sciences and other scientific institutions are among the organisers of the symposium.
Prominent scientists from Russia, China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the USA and other countries have applied for participation in the symposium.
The two-day symposium will be devoted to the issues concerning the development of the regional policy under the conditions of globalisation and integration in the Asian-Pacific region, regional aspects of Russia's strategic development in the current decade, outlook for energy cooperation in North-Eastern Asia, as well as economic cooperation between eastern regions of Russia and North-Eastern China, development of transport corridors in East Asia and other issues.
