Javier Solana Meets With Secretary of Russian Security Council

Javier Solana, Secretary General of the European Union Council, High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy, has arrived in Moscow. His negotiations in Moscow started on Wednesday with his meeting with Secretary of the Russian Security Council Vladimir Rushailo.

The Russian Security Council Secretary spoke in favour of practical development of cooperation between Russia and the European Union in the anti-terrorist activities, which were concerted at the Russia-EU summit in November, last year. Vladimir Rushailo said that Moscow is ready for cooperation in the fight against the drug threat and in the formation of a common European law enforcement space and supports the idea of setting up the Russia-EU Internal Security Council. He also expressed the hope for the continuation of the negotiations on the use of the Russian transport aviation for the needs of the European Rapid Reaction Force.

"It is necessary to raise the efficiency of the structures of cooperation between Russia and the European Union and to go over to interaction in concrete branches," underscored the Russian Security Council Secretary.

In his turn, Javier Solana rated highly the level of cooperation between Russia and the European Union. "We are real partners; we jointly solve the problems arising in the world," said Javier Solana at the meeting with the Secretary of the Russian Security Council.
