Gazprom buys Kauno Elektrine for $37.5m

Gazprom has bought Kauno Elektrine (KE), which is the second largest Lithuanian plant that produces heating and electrical energy. The deal amounted to $37.5m, including $30m that are to be transferred over the first five days, and the rest of the sum is to be paid by the end of the year. The facility works on gas and furnace oil.

Gazprom has purchased this power station with the participation of the US company Clement Power Venture and the Lithuanian company Dujotekana. Gazprom will have a 99 percent stake, the two other participants will have a 0.5 percent stake each. The new owners are to invest $42m in the facility by January 1, 2006, according to the agreement.
