Agreement on grain shipments from the Altai region (the Siberian federal district) to Vietnam has been reached at a meeting on Tuesday between Alexander Surikov, head of the administration of the region, and a Vietnamese delegation.
Six Altai companies are prepared to ship cereals to Vietnam, a RIA Novosti correspondent quotes the press service of the regional administration as saying. In turn, Vietnam will annually buy up to 1 million tons of grain and be a springboard for shipping Altai cereals to the markets in the Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Alexander Surikov guaranteed sustainable wheat supplies in volumes stipulated in the contract. He also said that mechanisms for lowering grain prices through cutting railway tariffs will be elaborated and agreement reached on the delivery of cereals through Russia's Far Eastern ports.
