Russian-German Company to Produce Diesel Engines in Sverdlovsk Region from 2003

A joint Russian-German company for producing diesel engines is to be established in the Sverdlovsk Region in 2003. Governor Eduard Rossel today held a working meeting with representatives of the Ural Turbomotor Plant and the German firm Deutz.

As a first stage, the different sides agreed to organise the delivery of parts from Germany in order to assemble 500 engines during 2003. The governor's information department announced that Rossel had approved the protocol of intent signed by Deutz and the Ural plant. According to the protocol, the joint project will be established by March 2003.

The governor said that modern diesel engines for tractors and road-construction equipment were 'needed now, when the federal law on the sale of farmland has been signed'.
