Volgograd sturgeon hatchery releases over four million fry into Volga

The Volgograd sturgeon hatchery has released 4,150,000 young sturgeons into the Volga river, the RIA Novosti correspondent quotes director Dmitri Syrbulov as saying on Wednesday.

This year four times more young stellate and starred sturgeon have been released than a year before thanks to the use of new hatching methods, additional purchase of breeding males from Astrakhan.

In August the hatchery plans to release about 15,000 crayfish into the Volga-Akhtuba floodplain.
