Rosenergoatom sets short-term priorities

President of the Rosenergoatom nuclear concern Oleg Sarayev announced major priorities of the company for the near future. He released this information at a meeting with heads of the cities where nuclear power stations were located. This meeting took place within the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) meeting. As the press center of Rosenergoatom reported to RBC, according to Sarayev, the concern is to provide normal financing of power stations, the activities for the extension of the operation term of first generation power generating units, an increase in the efficiency of the installed capacities of power stations and a timely implementation of investment projects.

The Russian Economy Ministry and the Federal Energy Commission of Russia adopted an investment program for Rosenergoatom for 2002 amounting to RUR19.8bn (about $627.91m). As the press center reported, the construction of third power generating unit of the Kalinin nuclear station is currently being completed. It is to be launched in 2003. In 2004, the fifth unit of the Kursk station will be launched, and in 2005 - the second unit of the Volgodonsk station. By 2006, it is planned to launch the fifth unit of the Balakovo nuclear power station. Sarayev pointed out that observing the planned launch terms should be provided by an annual increase in investments by at least RUR1.1bn ($38.88m) per year.
