The highest temperature over the last 50 years was fixed in the Irkutsk region (East Siberia), said Vladimir Butakov, the acting head of the regional hydro-meteorology department.
According to him, the absolute maximum of average temperatures in the Irkutsk region was exceeded. For instance, in Ust-Kut (the north of the region) the temperature rose up to 37 degrees and in the village of Teul - up to 38 degrees.
In this connection the Irkutsk ambulance service pointed to the sharp increase in heat and sun strokes and exacerbation of cardiovascular diseases.
