New International Terminal of Yekaterinburg Airport Opened

The opening ceremony of the new international terminal of Koltsovo airport near Yekaterinburg took place yesterday. This was announced by the Department of Information of Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region Eduard Rossel. As Rossel announced at the opening ceremony, 'The launch of this new international terminal is a step towards a new, modernised Koltsovo Airport.

The terminal will have a capacity of 450 passengers per hour. New technological equipment at the terminal includes a baggage transporter, customs control equipment, ventilation and air conditioning, a 'Green Corridor' zone for arrivals, and much more.

The Koltsovo airport is Russia's third airport in terms of international traffic. The new international terminal will allow an increase in capacity of 600 thousand people a year. In 1995, the German airline Lufthansa began regular flight schedules direct from Koltsovo. In 1997 the Hungarian airline Malev opened the firm Aeromost in Ekaterinburg. In 1999, the Dutch airline KLM, the British Airways, and CSA Czech Airlines began regular flights to Yekaterinburg. But the main airline working with Koltsovo Airport is Urals Airlines. In 1993, this Yekaterinburg airline made flights to 41 countries. Urals Airlines has regular flights to Warsaw, Dubai, Keln, Larnaka, Istanbul, Tel-Aviv, Tyan-Tsin, Urumchi (China), Utopao (Bangkok) and Hurgada.
