Russian Railway Ministry and LUKoil to Construct Modern Rail Line to Vysotsk, Leningrad Region

The Railway Ministry of Russia and LUKoil have signed an agreement on the construction of a transit complex in Vytsosk (Vyborg area of the Leningrad Region) as part of work towards modernising the existing transport infrastructure and constructing new lines which would enable a significant increase in transport of petroleum products.

As the press-service of the Governor of the Leningrad Region announced, LUKoil will construct a transit complex with hi-tech rail lines, and the Railway Ministry will take part in the expansion of transit capacity of the existing rail lines from St. Petersburg to Visotsk. Reconstruction is also planned of the two rail lines Mga-Priozersk-Vyborg and St. Petersburg-Vyborg-Helsinki. The reconstruction plans are a result of the necessity to increase the volume of goods transported by rail to the sea ports of Vysotsk and Primorsk.

The transit terminal will have a capacity of 10.75 million tonnes for petroleum products in Vysotsk. LUKoil investment for the first stage of construction comprises around USD 155 million.
