White House and Pentagon are extremely surprised at the statement
FBI counter-terrorism chief Dale Watson has made a sensational statement today to say that Osama bin Laden is dead. However, no evidences have been presented to this. Instead, Dale Watson said that at the same time the FBI was not quite sure that terrorist number one was still alive. What is the purpose of such statements then?
Watson also informed that bin Laden’s network of terrorist training camps had been liquidated, but he admitted at the same time that more terrorist attacks were still possible. In Watson’s words, terrorists infesting the country “want to kill you, they can be in your neighborhood.”
Watson rarely makes public appearances, and this time he avoided making comments and going into details. Some American officials are surprised that Watson has made statements of this kind. On the contrary, officials say that George W. Bush administration has got no information about bin Laden’s location, moreover, it is not clear whether he is alive at all. Pentagon spokeswoman Catherine Abbott told AP journalists, the office had no information about bin Laden, not to mention his death. FBI officials allowed no comments on the information (by the way, Watson himself has not commented on his statement at all).
At the end of the previous week German Federal Intelligence Service was quoted as saying bin Laden was alive and hiding somewhere at the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. But the information was not a sensation, because Turkey’s Intelligence Service had made a similar statement two months ago. So, Dale Watson’s statement is only his personal opinion so far. Bin Laden is still elusive, what is more, nobody can say for sure whether the terrorist number one is alive or not.
