Clough Engineering has been awarded the US$54 million (A$96 million) second phase of the greenfields Sawan onshore gas project in Pakistan by the Austrian oil and gas group OMV.
Engineering, design and procurement for Phase 1 of the Sawan gas field is currently being undertaken by Clough in its Perth office, with construction of the access road, airstrip, bulk earthworks, water supply pump station, temporary accommodation and site fencing already underway in country.
The Phase 2 scope of work comprises engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of a second gas processing train essentially identical to the Phase 1 train. With both trains operational, the total facility capacity will rise from 170 million SCFD to 340 million SCFD.
Dr Brian Hewitt, Clough Limited’s Managing Director, said "The synergies available in designing and building a second train on the back of the existing Phase 1 works, coupled with the fact that it is a repeat order with an internationally renowned client, makes this a particularly pleasing award for Clough." The Sawan field is located in the Thar Desert, approximately 300 kilometers north-east of Karachi. In November last year, Clough was awarded a US$100 million ($A200 million) contract for the first phase of the Sawan project.
The first phase included: surface-based facilities and flowlines for four wellsites; a central processing plant to produce 170 million SCFD of sales gas; and a 15 kilometre long, 500mm diameter sales gas pipeline. The scope of work also included access roads, an airstrip and permanent living accommodation.
Clough is one of Australia's most experienced international engineering and construction contractors, having operated successfully throughout Australia, Asia, the South Pacific, Middle East and offshore Europe for more than 40 years. The group has an extensive record of working successfully in remote and isolated regions on challenging projects.
