Saddam Hussein’s stepson was arrested on Wednesday in Florida while trying to enroll in a summer school. The AP reported that he was charged with violating a visa entry order and he was taken into custody for an indefinite period of time. FBI and Immigration Service agents took part in the arrest, together with collaborators of local law-enforcement bodies.
Thirty-six-year old New Zealand national Mohammad Saffi submitted an application to study in a summer school in Florida. This was the reason for the government to arrest him, because Saffi came to the USA on a tourist visa, which did not give him a right for education.
Representatives of the Aeroservice Aviation Center stated (Saffi submitted his documents there) that Saffi wanted to enroll in classes that would allow him to verify his diploma to pilot a plane. American federal authorities are getting ready to depart Saffi back to New Zealand, where he was working as a flight engineer for Air New Zealand.
Saffi has been living in New Zealand for six years, but they only learnt that he was Saddam Hussein’s stepson after the terrorist attack on America on September 11, when security services of the country were checking the personnel of all airlines. This did not lead to any sanctions against Saffi. Mohammad Saffi refuses to make any comments to journalists on the subject, or to say anything about his relations with Saddam Hussein.
Saffi was born in 1966, his mother, Samira Shahbandan, former air hostess, was the lover of the Iraqi president at the end of the 1980s, they got married later. By the way, one of those terrorists who hijacked planes on September 11th, studied at Aeroservice Aviation Center.
