Rosenergoatom, United Energy Systems of Russia Sign Agreement on Electricity Exports

Oleg Sarayev, President of Russia's Energoatom atomic energy concern, and Anatoly Chubais, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the United Energy Systems of Russia, just signed an agreement concerning the principles of external economic activities of the two companies, namely, exports of electricity from the Federal Wholesale Energy Market. According to Rosenergoatom's press service, the parties declared the forming of coordinated policies as concerns exporting and importing electricity on the basis of a common operator, the INTER-UNITED ENERGY SYSTEMS.

After all the necessary procedures and amending the charter, the United Energy Systems will sell 40% of the INTER-UNITED ENERGY SYSTEMS to Rosenergoatom. The agreement provides for the right of each of the parties to export through the common operator the quantities of electricity no less than each of the two supplies to Russia's wholesale market.

The Rosenergoatom concern is the government-owned entity coordinating and controlling Russia's nuclear power plants. The concern is in charge of all 10 Russia's nuclear power plants whose combined capacity amounts to 22,242 MW. In 2001, these power plants produced a total of 134.9 billion kW.
