On Friday afternoon, Vladimir Putin arrived in Stavropol. At the airport the head of state was met by Russian federal Emergencies Minister Sergei Shoigu, envoy to the Southern Federal District Viktor Kazantsev, deputy chief of Kremlin staff Aleksander Abramov, governor of the Krasnodar Territory Aleksander Tkachev and commander of the North-Caucasian military district Gennady Troshev.

On the way from Canada, the Russian leader's plane made a technical stop in Moscow and then headed for Stavropol.

As RIA Novosti knows from the presidential press secretary, Aleksei Gromov, during the technical stop-over Putin had a meeting with Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov.

Gromov reported that the premier informed the president in detail on measures federal and regional authorities were taking to provide assistance and to restore vitally important installations in the regions hit by floods.
