The press-service of the Chechen Republic's government warned the local population on Thursday that new flooding could strike the area. The new warning about floods and mountain torrents, which are expected in the next two days as a result of heavy precipitation, came from the all-Russian Centre for Monitoring and Forecasting Emergency Situations.
The press-service reported that the local population had been warned about the incoming dangers over the television and radio. However, those living in a few districts, including Grozny, cannot watch television because they do not have electricity. The press-service stressed that communal and rescue service were on heightened alert, as were regional departments and the police. Servicemen have also been warned and, in the event of danger, they are ready to join efforts and interact with aviation to evacuate people in zones under threat. Local heads in river areas have been instructed to carefully monitor the situation and control the rise in the water level of local rivers.
