Russia's security police bust multinational drug ring

Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) regional branches in Nizhny Novgorod on the Volga River and in Orenburg in the south of the Ural Mountains have unraveled an international criminal organization specialized in large-scale drug trafficking from Afghanistan, the Nizhny Novgorod branch's Office for Assistance Programs told RIA Novosti Tuesday.

Narcotic drugs were trafficked from Afghanistan via Tajikistan and Kazakhstan into Central Russia, including Moscow and St. Petersburg. The drug ring operated a network of intermediate storage sites in the Volga Federal District.

3.5 kg of heroin was seized in the sweep. 8 members of the drug ring were detained.
