A globe-lightning hits a factory chimney

A globe-lightning caused a break-down situation at the Azot chemical plant in the Kemerovo region, but there were no victims.

The incident took place on Sunday, June 23rd, when a globe-lightning hit the chimney of the compressor section in the ammoniac shop-1 of the Azot company. As a result of the depressurisation of the oil unit, dozens of kilogrammes of hot fuel started to burn.

Only quick and competent actions by the operators of the compressor section helped localise and extinguish the fire, and its further spread was stopped within six minutes.
