Russia "should be in a hurry" to enter the WTO but it "must not make mistakes," believes Speaker of the State Duma Gennady Seleznev. The head of the Lower House of the Russian Parliament told Petersburg reporters about it on Tuesday at Pulkovo airport.
In his opinion, it is necessary to foresee beforehand all possible negative, not only positive, consequences for the Russian economy.
Gennady Seleznev cited the example of China which, according to him, "though entered the WTO with great reservations and delayed the time limits of some programmes for international trade, yet now experiences serious difficulties." The Speaker reminded the reporters that the hearings on Russia's entry into the WTO had already taken place in the State Duma. "Many conditions have been set by the agro-industrial complex, the automobile and aviation industries, and they should be taken into consideration," said he.
