Russian coast guard arrests Japanese fishing schooner

A fishing schooner from Rausu, Japan has been arrested for violating the Russian state border and convoyed to Yuzhno-Kurilsk for further investigation, reported the press center of the Pacific Regional Office of Russia's Federal Frontier Service.

The Russian coast guard arrested the Tai Maru 58 in Russia's economic zone, which the schooner had entered illegally.

In a separate development, the coast guard arrested the South Korean fishing schooner Chong Yong from Pusan, which was trying to avoid a mandatory checkup at a Russian naval checkpoint. The captain of the schooner was fined.
