Russia not to revise oil supplies to Belarus

Russia will not revise the supplies of oil to Belarus planned through the end of 2002. As a source in the Russian government reported to RBC, today no decisions have been made regarding the revision of the supply volume of Russian oil to Belarus. Till the end of the year this issue will not be discussed.

According to the Russian-Belarusian agreement, Belarus is to receive 13 million tons of Russian oil in 2002. However, this document is more like an intention agreement. According to protocols to the agreement, Russia will supply to Belarus the amount of oil necessary to the republic. In the event this amount exceeds 13 million tons, Russia is ready to provide the necessary volume of supplies. In the event the need decreases, Russia may reduce the supply volume.

As it was earlier reported, Russia is planning to reduce the volume of oil supplies to Belarus in the 2nd quarter of 2002. According to the preliminary estimation, in the 1st quarter of 2002, the supplies of Russian oil to Belarus amounted to 3.7 million tons (3.5 million tons planned). The volume of supplies is expected to decrease to 3.4 million tons in the 2nd quarter of 2002. The major suppliers of oil and oil products to Belarus are the Surgutneftegaz oil and gas company, LUKoil, the Yukos oil company, the Slavneft oil company and the Sibneft oil company.
