Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent a message of congratulations to Hamid Karzai who has been elected president of Afghanistan, and offered him cooperation, aid and support.
According to the press service of the Russian President, Vladimir Putin expressed confidence that Hamid Karzai would move further towards restoring Afghanistan's statehood, forming a civil society, overcoming negative consequences of the past in the name of better future for the Afghan people, and boosting good relations and cooperation between our countries.
You can rely upon us in terms of cooperation, assistance and support, said the Russian president.
Putin's message also remarks that Russia knows Hamid Karzai as a real patriot seeking to reanimate peaceful, independent, united, neutral and prospering Afghanistan and make it a decent and full-fledged member of the international community.
Hamid Karzai was elected president of Afghanistan on June 13 by Loya Jirga - the Great Council, including chiefs and elders of Afghan tribes.
