Plenipotentiary representative of the Russian president in the Siberian federal district Leonid Drachevsky proposed that the European Union change the rules according to which the EU countries may not import from states outside the European Union zone more than 30 per cent of the consumed energy resources. He stated this Monday at the Power and Steady Development international economic forum of European regions, which opened in Omsk (the south of Western Siberia).
This forum is being held on the initiative of the fund in support of the economy and stable development of regions of Europe which operates under the aegis of the Council of Europe, and with the active participation of the Omsk Region's administration.
Drachevsky stressed that if the European Union changes the rules of import of energy resources to the EU Russia could assume the obligation to make guaranteed supplies of energy resources onto the European market. He also stated that not abstract cooperation between the EU and Russia but concrete projects must be discussed today. According to him, forecasting the market of energy resources, energy supply, rationalization of the structure of the use of different energy resources, and transition from the use of unrecoverable sources of energy to development of recoverable ones could become the most promising spheres of interaction of Russia and the EU.
