The governor of St. Petersburg, Vladimir Yakovlev, has invited Europeans to mark the 300th birthday of Russia's Northern Capital, St. Petersburg, together with Russians.
Yakovlev is attending a congress of local European bodies of power, which has opened in Strasbourg on Tuesday.
At a press conference in the Palace of Europe on marking the 300th birthday of St.Petersburg next year, Yakovlev said that St. Petersburg has always been "the symbol of European unity". "Architects, engineers and scientists from all over Europe have taken part in the building and development of St. Petersburg, as its founder Peter the Great bequeathed," said Vladimir Yakovlev. "This is the reason why we invite Europeans to celebrate the 300th birthday of St. Petersburg together with us," said Yakovlev.
