The care of the European countries that is being taken of the gunmen of the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem is overwhelming. At first they were sent to Europe without any obstacles of their way. This happened right at the time, when governments of many countries were thinking on the immigration restriction. Then the militants were given all conveniences and conditions for their rest. And this is not all: Europeans, who gave refuge to Palestinians, are ready to help them with their personal lives too.
When Annan Mohammed Hamis Tanjeh was coming to Portugal, a headline of one of local newspapers looked like thousands of others: “Lonely young man with a house and reliable sources of income has everything but the fiancйe.” There was Tanjeh’s picture under the headline. Israel considers this person a member of the terrorist organization Al-Aqsa Martyr's Brigade. While European countries were taking care of the gunmen, this organization claimed responsibility for another act of terrorism on the outskirts of Tel Aviv - two people were killed and dozens were wounded. Palestinian Tanjeh was delivered from Spain by land transport. After he has rest, he will be given a dwelling not far from the Palestinian diplomatic mission in Lisbon. He will be provided with everything that is needed for the living, even with a job. The Red Cross will watch the guy and the local police will take care of his security. A spokesman for the Portuguese diplomatic mission stated that Tanjeh will have Portuguese language classes in a local high school. He does not have either a girlfriend or a wife, so the authorities are going to find him a bride too.
Maybe Europeans wanted to help both Israel and Palestine in such an awkward way: thirteen gunmen will not be able to carry out a suicidal act of terrorism. In addition to that, they are protected from Mossad.
France Presse news agency reported Efrayim Halevi, the head of the Israeli Mossad intelligence agency, had a secret meeting in Washington with CIA Director Tenet last week. The agency refers to the Israeli newspaper Yediot Aharonot, which wrote that the chiefs discussed the issue of transformation of the Palestinian autonomy, about which Yasser Arafat has recently announced. Israeli and Americana intelligence officers are first and foremost concerned about the transformation of twelve security services: they are supposed to be transformed into three organizations that will directly subordinate to the political leadership of the autonomy.
The newspaper reminded that Israel has always been against any help that Americans could render to Palestinian security services. This time Efrayim Halevi was most likely saying the same thing, asking his American colleagues not to interfere in the process of the transformation of the Palestinian autonomy. Americans were reportedly convincing Israelis not to put obstacles of Arafat’s way back to the fatherland, in case if he was leaving abroad. Tenet is allegedly expected to visit Israel soon by the way, although this information has not been officially confirmed.
