For the second day in a row, rescuers are trying to save thirty ships of the Nizhnaya Yana River Shipping Company. Earlier, all these ships were knocked off their moorings by the bank of the trans-polar Yana River by ice floes and carried off in the direction of the Arctic Ocean. However, thanks to rescuers and the crews, in the past twenty-four hours 18 of the ships were arrested and towed to the bank with the help of cables, reported the Far Eastern Regional Center of the emergencies ministry.
In the meantime, the rest of the ships -- dry cargo vessels, tankers and floating cranes -- are still scattered across the river. The ice has pressed some of them into the bank, damaging them badly in the process; only 10 of the 30 runaway ships are in working order. Three dry cargo ships were badly wrecked. Rescuers have evacuated crews from the motor vessels that ended up in an ice trap. The rest of the crews are struggling to save their ships.
