A survey ship is to carry out a pre drill shallow seismic test in early June in the Pohokura gas condensate field for Shell Todd Oil Services. The survey will be in an area over 8km offshore from Waitara, Taranaki where STOS plans to drill its Pohokura North appraisal well in PEP 38459 in the third quarter of this year. STOS said the purpose of the survey is to test for the presence of shallow gas to enable the optimum safe location for the Pokokura North well.
The contractor for the project Fugro Survey Pty Ltd will use the vessel MV Setouchi Surveyor to conduct the survey around May 31st or June 1st for approximately 4-6 days over a 3 sq km grid over the well site. The vessel will tow a 1.5 km hydrophone cable and a small pressurized seismic source.
