Russian metallurgists fear that the Chinese authorities may take non-market protectionist steps in relation to Russian metallurgical products, Alexander Abramov, head of the Eurasholding joint stock association, stated. He took part in the government session, which considered the issue on measures to develop Russia's metallurgic industry for the period until 2010. Abramov explained that the Chinese government received an appeal from Chinese steelmakers, who claimed to introduce protective duties on hot-rolled stock imports from Russia. According to Abramov, the Chinese authorities suspended considering the issue after the recent visit of Russian vice-premier Viktor Khristenko to China, however, the application of Chinese producers was not revoked.
