A special Russian-American energy summit will take place in the second half of this year in the United States. It will be attended by representatives of the governments and the leading energy companies of the two countries. US Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham spoke about it on Monday in the Detroit Economic Club where he delivered a report on the plans of the US administration in the sphere of the power industry. According to the US Secretary of Energy, at the present time the United States is seeking new sources to replenish its requirements in energy sources, trying to diversify them as much as possible. In this context, last autumn the United States took part in opening the Caspian pipeline in Russia. This pipeline, said he, will contribute to the development of trade and to the expansion of investments into the tremendous energy resources of Russia and other states of the Caspian and the Caucasian regions, pointed out Spencer Abraham. He said that the coming Russian-American energy summit will determine the trends for further joint efforts of Russia and the United States in this sphere. Later, talking with reporters, Spencer Abraham said that the questions of Russian-American cooperation in the sphere of the production of oil and other energy resources were discussed by him during his recent negotiations with Russian Energy Minister Igor Yusufov who paid a visit to the United States. They discussed the possibilities of cooperation between the Russian and American oil companies not only in Russia but also in other regions of the world with the aim of increasing its production in the future and expanding its sources.
