Russian foreign ministry: first decision of the European Court of Human Rights with respect to Russia to be fulfilled

The Russian foreign ministry declared that the first decision made by the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg with respect to the Russian Federation will be fulfilled. The report of the Russian foreign ministry says that in compliance with this decision "Russian citizen A. T. Burdov should receive compensation from the state in fulfilment of the obligations assumed by our country as member of the Council of Europe." In 1996, Russia ratified the European convention for the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms. This allowed all persons, who are under the jurisdiction of the Russian Federation, to apply to the European Court of Human Rights if they believe their rights have been violated, the report points out. This also corresponds to article 46 (part 3) of the Russian Constitution which says that every person has the right, in compliance with the international agreements of the Russian Federation, to apply to inter-state bodies for the protection of human rights and freedoms if all the internal state means of the legal protection available have been exhausted.
